St Augustine’s is a Church of England church in Tooting, London. We are a lively, diverse, growing church in the modern catholic tradition.

We worship in modern English.

The Eucharist (known as Holy Communion or Mass) is our main Sunday service each week; we hear the Scriptures read and celebrate God’s presence through this beautiful Sacrament.

Our Faith

Lively – we enjoy worshiping together, singing and making music, regardless of ability. We expect our services to be interrupted; by children, by latecomers, by people who wander through from one of the local hospitals, and we enjoy one another’s company.

Diverse – St Augustine’s is a church of people with roots all over the world. We’ve many worshipers with links to the Caribbean, as well as West Africa and Asia. We are welcome everyone, aged 0 to 100+. Some of us are hard of hearing (we have a loop), others use wheelchairs or sticks. We are married, single, widowed, and LGBT.

Growing – we are committed to growing together in Jesus, to growing in faith, character and fruitfulness. We hope our joy is infectious, and that we are growing in numbers too. We often say to one another, “invite your friends and neighbours”. We care about the community surrounding the church as well as the worshipers that meet here.

Modern Catholic – The Catholic tradition in the Church of England is rooted in

• the scriptures (Old Testament and New Testament)
• saints (holy people who have been faithful in living Christian lives)
• seasons of the Church year (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter etc)
• sacraments (outward signs of God’s inward activity, such as Baptism and Holy Communion)
• sacred sites (church buildings and shrines are consecrated; dedicated to God for worship)
• social teaching (the Church’s ongoing reflection on how the Gospel shapes society; seeking justice, peace, and the common good).

Our Vision

St Augustine’s Church is a welcoming Anglican Catholic community, rooted in prayer and worship, seeking to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all.
