At St Augustine’s we believe children are not just the future of the Church; they are part of the Church today.
During Sunday Worship
Our aim is for worship to be truly all-age, so that children can take part, learn, and grow in faith alongside everyone else.
Good preaching, singing and worship are important to us; we want children and adults to grow in their knowledge and love of God. Whether you come every week or are visiting for the first time, your children are welcome here.
We hope to be a church where children can explore during the service, and we expect them to make noise as they move around.
Children’s corner
We have a children’s corner near the front of church where families can sit together if that is helpful. In worship itself, children are warmly encouraged to join in.
Children help lead our praises with ribbons for the Gloria, maracas for the Alleluia, and small bells rung together with the sanctus bell during the Eucharistic Prayer.
Prayer tree
Sometimes children are also invited to place prayers on our prayer tree as the intercessions are offered. These simple actions remind us that worship belongs to the whole people of God.
We also welcome children to serve at the altar, learning by doing and discovering what it means to take part in the heart of the Church’s prayer.
Our hope is that, from the youngest to the oldest, everyone finds their place in worship at St Augustine’s.
Facilities
We have a baby change facility and a family / wheelchair accessible toilet. We want to make it as easy as possible to bring buggies; there are currently two steps up to the church’s front door, but the back entrance is step free. You would be welcome to use either entrance.
Children’s Services
We hold occasional special services for children at our sister church, Holy Trinity (74 Trinity Rd):
- Christmas Crib Service
- Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)
- Good Friday Craft Service
- All Hallows Eve service.
