On the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, the Church celebrates Corpus Christi — the Day of Thanksgiving for the Institution of Holy Communion — a feast kept in the Church of England to give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist.
At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread and wine and gave them to his disciples, saying: “This is my body… this is my blood.” In Holy Communion, Christ continues to feed his people with his own life. Corpus Christi is a celebration of Christ truly present among his people in the Blessed Sacrament, giving himself as Bread for the World.
During the service, we process over a carpet of sweet-smelling rose petals: a sign of joy, beauty and devotion as we honour Christ’s gift of himself in the Eucharist.
Our Eucharist for Corpus Christi is on Thursday 4th June 2026 at 7.15pm at St Augustine’s Church, Tooting, and is followed by refreshments. All are warmly welcome.
