Our services are for people of all ages, and backgrounds. If you’ve never been to church before or are nervous about coming for the first time, here are some pointers:

Sunday Mornings

  • we meet from 11am – 12.15pm.
  • We praise God through music, with an opening hymn or song
  • We confess our sins in a prayer, and receive God’s forgiveness
  • We listen to 2 or 3 readings from the Bible, and sing a Psalm or hymn
  • We listen to God through the words of a sermon/talk (10-14 minutes)
  • We pray together for the Church and for the World
  • We share God’s peace (usually by waving or shaking hands)
  • We pray for God to be made present to us in the outward form of bread and wine
  • The baptised people usually receive Holy Communion, and others receive a prayer of blessing
  • We sing another song and give thanks for God’s gifts to us
  • After a prayer of God’s blessing, we depart back to the world in the knowledge of God’s love (or go for coffee together in the hall).

What about for children?

We have a range of different ways for children to be involved in the service, from praying using our intercessions “tree” to helping to ring the bells during the Eucharistic prayer.

We are building a children’s corner so that there are plenty of ways to be engaged during the readings and sermon.

What about special requirements?

If you inform us before the service, we can offer low gluten hosts for communion.

St Augustine’s has a car park and a wheelchair accessible door from the car park.

We have several lavatories, including one which is wheelchair accessible, as well as a baby change area.

What if I am atheist / agnostic / non-believing / LGBT / divorced / uncomfortable in Church?

St Augustine’s welcomes those who are seeking faith or uncertain about belief or accompanying a friend to church.

Our church is one in which those are LGBT or divorced will find a warm welcome and a place to call home.

We know that churches aren’t always easy places to belong, but we strive to find ways to be welcoming, kind and generous, as we explore the journey of faith in Jesus together.
